Living Riverfields: Thriving community hub

There’s an emerging area coming up in Johannesburg and it’s called Riverfields. No longer a dream, our vision for a mixed-use, sustainable precinct has come to life. Within our vast tract of land is a range of different nodes that are bursting with opportunity. It is a living, breathing precinct where families go about their daily routine, businesses thrive and commerce takes place.

Community life and residential estates

Home to many, Riverfields has established neighbourhoods and gated estates. You will see members of our community out and about, enjoying the vibrant lifestyle and natural beauty of the precinct. There are plenty of pedestrian-friendly walking and cycling paths, parks and outdoor green spaces.

All of life’s necessities can be found close to home from the quick grocery run to Harvest Place, to community events and schools for the kids. That is not to mention that leisure activities are right on your doorstep from Serengeti Golf Course to the upcoming Lifestyle Centre oppositive Harvest Place and, just for the kids, the biggest trampoline park on the East Rand of Johannesburg, Wi:Jump.

We are also tremendously proud of the fact that our residential estates consistently outperform neighbouring suburbs when it comes to rental returns.

Take a closer look at the residential estates within Riverfields:

Glen Erasmia Boulevard

Located in Glen Marais, on Veld Street, Glen Erasmia has over 1 760 residents and 440 homes on the estate. It is a welcoming, family-friendly environment. From 2003, when the estate first opened, we’ve promoted a child-friendly environment. In the past, we have held the Glen Erasmia holiday camp for kids, children’s theatre and we have celebrated community events such as Halloween and Women’s Day.

Recently we embarked on an upgrade of the facilities. The playground now has a large jungle gym with plenty of climbing apparatus, a sand pit, a basketball hoop and a mix of grass and paved areas.

Glen Erasmia has been awarded AAA-Grade for security, provided by Fidelity Security Services. It is a bustling estate with over 5 000 movements recorded in and out of the estate on a daily basis. There are over 100 cameras monitoring public areas and thermal cameras on the perimeter.

Gleneagle Estate

Gleneagle Estate is on Simonsig Street, Glen Erasmia Boulevard. The unique design is that of an eagle which has been artfully incorporated into the architectural layout of the estate. It has 392 stands and 4 cluster developments.

The Gleneagle Estate clubhouse is where you can see the heart of this estate filled with residents enjoying their leisure time. We have a full restaurant catering from breakfast to dinner, along with children’s play facilities and conference facilities for business events.

We’ve purposefully added lifestyle facilities to all our estates as these are a long-term investment for community building, which is a key component of Riverfields. Gleneagle Estate has a tennis court, squash court and parks where neighbours can interact and enjoy a better quality of life within a safe estate.

Swallow Hills

Riverfields is an exceptional opportunity to relocate your family to a lush Johannesburg suburb while still being able to commute into areas like Sandton and Rosebank. Swallow Hills has introduced convenient suburban living for the city commuter. Our residents will be able to easily link to the Gautrain, OR Tambo International Airport and the R21/R24 highways.

As with other estates in Riverfields it is within close proximity to top schools and the estate itself has family-friendly features. Swallow Hills consists of 180 homes across 9.7 hectares of land, with stands ranging from 390 sqm to 1 000 sqm. We have also created the opportunity for prospective buyers to design and build their dream home. You can find Swallow Hills on Mulder Rd, Glen Marais.

Commercial offerings

The Gleneagle office node is humming with daily activity as is the JT Ross Business Park. You will see cars parked outside, workers chatting during their lunch breaks and clients frequenting the premises. There are incredible commericial opportunities on offer within Riverfields and our business tenants are proud to be part of the precinct. Our offices use the latest in sustainable design features and landscaped areas throughout.

The newest addition to our office node is no.11 Gleneagle Office Park. Currently under construction, it incorporates a unique architectural design and features energy-saving amenities such as a backup generator and 5000l water tank. As our business parks grow, we look forward to welcoming more people to the precinct, some of whom will work in tandem with our logistics parks nearby.

Logistics and distributions centres

We have one of the largest logistics and distributions centres in the area, within close proximity to OR Tambo International Airport and the Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis. JT Ross Plumbago Logistics Park is a prominent park within Riverfields as is the 3 Equites Parks owned by Equites Property Fund. We house a range of international and local operations within the node and we are proud to be home to national players such as Takealot.com, DSV, Foschini, John Deere and Sandvick.

Sustainability has been part of the Riverfields blueprint from the beginning and it is incorporated into our logistics and distributions parks too. We are pleased to share that Equites Park Riverfields Sandvik has received a Preliminary EDGE Advanced Certificate from Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). The development is expected to yield 71% energy savings and 41% water savings. Installed solar panels already cover 55% of the total energy use.

Harvest Place Shopping Mall

Come to Harvest Place and you will see how the tapestry of our community comes to life. This is where the true essence of Riverfields as a thriving interconnected precinct is experienced firsthand. You will see a dynamic mix of people from our different nodes: families from the neighbourhood, workers from the office parks and distribution centres, kids after school and soon the members of our retirement community and medical node will also be seen at the mall.

Harvest Place opened in mid 2022 and has been greatly applauded by the community. The mall finds its home at the vibrant centre of the rapidly expanding Riverfields Precinct.

Conveniently positioned at the prominent intersection of Monument Road and Blaauwklippen Avenue in Glen Erasmia, it offers excellent accessibility. There is also a bus stop positioned outside the mall.

A new Lifestyle Centre is under construction and will be opening soon opposite the mall. This will further expand the leisure zone within Riverfields and become a favourite destination for all.

Community upgrades

Riverfields has transformed into a dynamic and thriving precinct. The commitment to infrastructure, safety, recreation, and sustainability has made it an attractive place to live, work, and raise families, creating a true sense of community for its residents.

We’ve put in place security measures throughout the precinct, which is managed by the Riverfields Management Association. We have surveillance cameras, security vehicles that patrol and security presence at our facilities.

A number of community upgrades have been made over the years. The Riverfields underpass opened in 2015, helping pedestrians and commuters pass from one side of Riverfields to the other, where the R21 cuts through the development. In addition to opening the mall, Riverfields has worked closely with government to provide accessible transport linkages within the precinct. This includes the Gauteng bus route close to the logistics park.

By 2026 we expect to have the Christian Maranatha School up and running within the precinct and the first phase of the Maranatha Church campus under construction. The campus will introduce an events hall, sports fields and courses for the community.

We’re progressing well with our sustainable parks and outdoor green spaces. We’ve got a thriving wetland, parklands areas, kids’ playgrounds, pedestrian pathways for walking and cycling and well-kept landscaping throughout the precinct. We have purposefully chosen landscaping that is sustainable, requiring less maintenance and energy consumption in line with our sustainability values.

The roads within the precinct are well maintained and we are upskilling the local community to take on roles within the precinct, including pothole repairs, roadworks and construction. We are also planning to introduce a subsidised housing scheme with support from the government.

Riverfields’ mixed-use precinct stands as a testament to the vision of a thriving, interconnected community in Johannesburg. With its vibrant residential estates, bustling business opportunities, and a central hub like Harvest Place, it has become a model of sustainable development. Through continuous upgrades, Riverfields is a true home where families grow, businesses prosper, and the sense of community thrives. It’s a living, breathing precinct where dreams have become a reality.
