SANDVIK Skills Development 2025

Sandvik Portable Skills SED Programme: Investing in Skills. Empowering Community.

Persons receiving their certificates during the course graduation event

Sandvik, which forms part of the Riverfields Lifestyle Precinct, implemented a Portable Skills SED Training Programme in 2025 in partnership with AIH Human Capital and HTE. The initiative reflects Sandvik’s commitment to meaningful socio-economic development within the communities surrounding its operations.

Delivered between June and October 2025, the programme was designed to equip community members from the greater Riverfields and Kempton Park area with practical, transferable technical skills aligned to the construction and built-environment sectors.

Congratulations to each person receiving their certifications!

Practical Skills with Real-World Application

The training covered a wide range of construction-related disciplines, including plumbing, bricklaying, plastering, tiling, welding, carpentry, painting, sanitation installation, as well as basic storekeeping and inventory principles.

A strong emphasis was placed on hands-on learning. Participants translated theory into practical implementation, resulting in tangible construction outputs and demonstrable technical competence. This applied approach strengthens both workplace readiness and confidence.

Expanding Employability and Enterprise Potential

Portable skills training plays a critical role in enabling economic participation. Through accredited unit standards and structured practical experience, the programme enhances opportunities for:

• Entry into formal employment within construction and related industries
• Independent or contract-based income generation
• Entrepreneurial activity within local communities

In addition to technical capability, the programme fostered teamwork, discipline, adaptability and problem-solving — all essential attributes for long-term employability.

Meaningful Local Impact

The initiative successfully engaged members of the surrounding community, demonstrating how corporate investment in skills development can create measurable impact at grassroots level.

The accompanying Training Needs Analysis further highlights strong interest in continued development, signalling that the programme has sparked sustained ambition for further growth and learning.

Dedication, resilience and hard work – we are proud and grateful for each person who completed their certification

Looking Ahead
Skills development remains a cornerstone of inclusive economic growth. As a corporate citizen within the Riverfields Lifestyle Precinct, Sandvik’s investment in portable skills training contributes meaningfully to strengthening the local skills base and expanding access to opportunity.

Initiatives of this nature demonstrate how targeted, practical interventions can empower individuals, support livelihoods, and positively influence the broader community ecosystem.
